Glossary
of Terms
B Times
(BB, A., AA,AAA,AAAA): USS designated different time standards
for swimmers to achieve. Often these standards designate which swimmers
should attend a particular meet. Developmental meets usual limit
entries to those who have not accomplished BB times in each even.
Long Course (50m): Refers to the length of the
course raced during the summer season (April-August)
Short Course (25y): Refers to the length of the
course raced during the winter season (September-March)
State Cuts: Each age group has qualifying times
in each event that must be achieved in order for a swimmer to enter
the state meet in that event. Making these times is a big accomplishment
for our swimmers. The BB time standard is often the State Cut for
that event.
Top 16 Times: for each age group the 16 fastest
swimmers in the nation in each event have Top 16 Times. Times that
meet these standards can be submitted to USS as candidates for the
Top 16 ranking.
USS Number: This number is your ID number for all
meets. It is a made of the swimmers initial and his or her birth
date. For example: John Wayne Doe, who was born Jan, 1, 1984 would
have the USS Number JWD010184
